In Alberta, property is taxed based on the ad valorem principle, meaning &#8220;according to value.&#8221; This means the amount of property tax you pay is directly tied to your property\u2019s assessed value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assessments are conducted annually in January and February by our contracted Property Assessor, Larry James of Wainwright Assessment Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-b4c9947c0a1317372c71e0cfd55f34e1\"><strong>When Will I Receive My Property Assessment and Tax Notice?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your property assessment and tax notice is usually mailed mid <strong>May<\/strong>. Please check your mailbox for your notice, which will include your property&#8217;s assessed value and tax amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-2bae7f4e2b402f2d8786a668e45c8201\"><strong>What Are My Tax Dollars Used For?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your property taxes support essential community services, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Garbage collection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water and sewer services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Road construction and maintenance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parks and leisure facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Police and fire protection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seniors\u2019 lodges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public libraries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Municipal administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-4af95d4dca0358c18f57d72b672efa26\"><strong>Who Pays Property Tax?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All owners of taxable real estate in Alberta are required to pay property taxes. This includes individuals, businesses, and farmers who own property within the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-af99650c95064f108edc935988a4866d\"><strong>When Are My Taxes Due?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2025 property taxes were due on Wednesday, July 31st.<\/strong> The amount shown on your assessment and tax notice covers the municipal taxes for the period <strong>January 1 to December 31, 2025<\/strong>. Please ensure your payment is received by the due date to avoid penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-836593ac0a28d3d7cf62248c2b61e75b\"><strong>Where Do My Taxes Go?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your property tax notice includes three separate levies, each taxed at a different rate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Municipal Levy<\/strong>:<br>Paid directly to the Village of Myrnam, funding local infrastructure, services, and programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>School Levy<\/strong>:<br>Collected by the Village and forwarded to the Province of Alberta for public education. The amount is based on population and tax base.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/education-property-tax\">Learn more about the Alberta school tax here.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eaglehill Foundation Levy<\/strong>:<br>Collected by the Village and forwarded to the Eaglehill Foundation to support senior housing in the region.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-78bcdd99ca636de06093ef0984d515e0\"><strong>What If I Am Late Paying My Taxes?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You had until <strong>Thursday, July 31st, 2025<\/strong> to pay your taxes without penalty. If your taxes are not paid in full by this date, a <strong>12% penalty<\/strong> was be applied to your current year&#8217;s balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any amounts unpaid by <strong>January 1, 2026<\/strong>, an additional <strong>10% penalty<\/strong> will be applied to the outstanding balance and any previous penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-4850f79c35ac71ee1fe3afff82c83782\"><strong>Taxation Rates for the Village of Myrnam (2025)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tax rates are based on the assessed value of your property and are calculated per thousand dollars of that value. The Village of Myrnam offers a <strong>Tax Instalment Payment Program<\/strong> for property owners in good standing. This allows you to spread your property tax payments over 12 months rather than paying in one lump sum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How It Works:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your monthly payment is calculated by dividing your previous year\u2019s tax levy by 12.<br>(Example: If your tax levy was $1,200, your monthly payment would be $100.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payments are automatically debited from your account starting in January.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested, complete the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myrnam.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Tax-Instalment-Payment-Program-Application.pdf\">Tax Instalment Payment Program Application<\/a><\/strong> and return it to the Village of Myrnam Administration Office along with a VOID cheque and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myrnam.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/PAD-Agreement-updated.pdf\">PAD Agreement<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-aa41432b1e6388f445cf3c76073285c1\"><strong>What If I Disagree with My Property Assessment?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You can correct name or address or question your assessment without filing a complaint. Contact the Village office at 780-366-3910 or <a>admin@myrnam.ca<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you disagree with your property assessment, you had <strong>60 days<\/strong> (Tuesday, July 22, 2025) from the date of mailing to file an appeal through the <strong>Joint Assessment Review Board (ARB)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Ask Yourself:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is the market value assessment reasonable as of December 31 of the previous year?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are the property details on record correct?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is my assessment equitable compared to similar properties?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You can correct name or address or question your assessment without filing a complaint. Your complaint may relate to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessment amount<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Property classification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Property type<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taxability or exemption<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em>You can correct name or address or question your assessment without filing a complaint.
